Floating bars in the Turks and Caicos
SOCA SOUNDS AND SAVORY COCKTAILS SERVED OUT ON THE BLUEST SEA: MEET TCIS NEWEST ATTRACTION: FLOATING TIKI BARS.
Not all afternoon cocktails (or mocktails) are created equal. Though it’s nice to enjoy a cold brew at your local sports bar, or a crisp rosé poolside at home, there’s something about a vacation setting that makes everything extra special. Sure, there’s the schedule (or lack of!). And there’s also the company, and the view. But what if you could add another dimension to an already sweet situation? In the Turks and Caicos Islands, you can. Meet our new floating Tiki Bars. An elevated experience that combines stunning ocean hues with rhythmic local Soca beats, and any holiday cocktail your heart desires.
CAPTAIN OAK’S TIKI BAR
Captain Oak’s Tiki Bar is located in Long bay, approximately half a mile away from the beach. Fun and friendly, it’s set on one of the biggest sandbars in the world. Though always popular (and often packed) it’s shallow enough for patrons to comfortably sip while standing in the crystal clear sea, watching world class kitesurf action happening around the area. As one of the top kitesurfing destinations around the globe, there’s always something impressive to see, and kiters even stop by to say hello.
Visit @captoakstikibar on Instagram and see what it’s all about
Although it might seem tempting to try and walk your way there ( it will seem fairly close to the shore), we don’t advise doing so. Tides change quickly, and a walk down to the bar could become hazardous. A few options will get you there safely: reach Captain Oak’s Tiki Bar by boat with boat charters taking you there after a snorkeling trip, or visiting the Island’s shipwrecks right in front of Long bay. You can also rent a jet ski at Long Bay beach for about $180/hour. The most budget friendly way to get there is Captain Oak’s Tiki Bar Taxi. Cute name, right?! Running the same hours as the bar, you can hop on from noon until 6pm daily. Rates are $20 per person roundtrip, and you can call +1 649-345-6581 or reach out through Instagram @captoakstikibar to book your taxi in advance.
With the likes of Drake and Jack Harlow stopping by, this popular Tiki bar is a hot spot for cool cocktails, refreshing drinks and light grilled food. Expect to pay anywhere between $13 to $39 for your favorite beverages and snacks, and know you’ll be well-served for virgin drinks as well.
From our experience, the crew is extremely welcoming and fun. Add this to your list and treat yourself to an afternoon feeling like a celebrity.
NOAH’S ARK BEACH CLUB
Noah’s Ark is like a floating beach club. You’ll find it right by Iguana Island, formerly known as Little Water Cay, open daily from 10am to sunset. Although the water is deeper on one side, there’s a shallow part where you can enjoy your drinks in the water. Larger than Captain Oak’s, it accommodates more people on deck and there’s plenty of dancing to local Soca beats ! Surrounded by mangroves (the lungs of the Turks and Caicos) there’s a magical sense of vibrant beauty all around.
Similar to Captain Oak’s tiki bar, it’s accessed by jet ski or boat. Another option is to book a spot on the ferry service at The Sand Dollar, at Blue Haven marina, which runs from 1 to 5pm. Round Trip fare is also $20 per person and must be booked in advance, through your resort front desk or by contacting Noah’s Ark directly at 1 649 242-6624 or 1 649 246 7490.
Visit their Instagram @noahsarktci for plenty of photos and information. They’re fairly active and responsive.
Owner Daniel Lester Carter likes to mix things up when it comes to drinks. From mango mojitos, to local beer and clever concoctions, and meals, he’s created a true beach club vive on the water. There’s even a VIP Table section where $550 will get your privileged seats and 2 bottles of your favorite spirit.
Last time we stopped by, it reminded us of a summer DJ festival. Music, magic and loads of people having a great time.
No matter which venue you plan to visit, make sure you plan in advance, so your transportation is set and your experience is unforgettable. Visitors come to TCI seeking these spots out and they’re getting rave reviews.
Hope you can join !
