10 Day Activities for Fun Family Travel in the Caribbean

Where to go and what to do when booking a rental home in the Turks and Caicos

Taking a family trip means factoring in a whole lot more than you would if you were traveling solo. You want to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and unforgettable time. Safety, privacy, convenience and location should be at the top of your list when choosing a luxury rental home, but activities also play an important part in a memorable vacation.

The Caribbean is gorgeous to contemplate, but after a few hours soaking up the beauty, you may actually want to go somewhere. Luckily, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos has lots to offer and the White Villas team constantly does its homework to make sure you’re booking the best day day activities. When we say we’re Much more than a Villa, we mean it. Besides the top tier amenities our guests appreciate so much—private pool, outdoor movie theatre, playground and outdoor gym, complimentary paddle boards, snorkeling gear and much more—our vacation home rentals are managed by us directly, and we will point you in the right direction.

There are tons of activities to do and loads of sights to see around the island. The two best ways to explore Providenciales with the entire family is via a car and boat. When you book a home rental through us, we provide easy, affordable access to car rentals, boating excursions and our very own guide to driving around Providenciales. Here are some fun family day trips that you can take around the island.

1. Sapodilla Bay Beach, Taylor Bay Beach and Chalk Sound

Book your car and use the White Villas driving guide to show you the way. There, you’ll find the Sapodilla Bay and Taylor Bay beaches. Not only do these beaches showcase the infamous clear blue waters of Turks and Caicos, they are also ideal for families travelling with small children, as the water along these beaches is calm and shallow. Pull out some snacks, soak up the sun and hang out at the beach for a few hours. For more scenic views, take a quick break from swimming and head over to Sapodilla Hill where you will see some historical rock carvings and get a bird’s eye view of the ocean.

Picturesque Chalk Sound National Park lagoon is near both beaches. This natural treasure is best enjoyed through a pontoon tour (book it directly at Las Brisas) where you and your family can appreciate attractions such as the limestone islands and iguanas. Paddle boarding and snorkeling are also great activities you can consider as a family. Most of the water here is shallow so it’s an excellent spot for some safe, water-filled adventure.

2. White Villas Boat Excursions

What better way to relish in the ocean’s clear, blue sparkling water than going on a private boat tour around the surrounding islands? White Villas offers a few fun filled boat excursions packed with sights and activities that the whole family can enjoy. Your day will start by getting picked up from your own nearby beach. From there, an experienced boat captain (That would be me, Simon) takes your family around the island’s hot spots such as the rusted shipwreck, Blue Haven and Leeward canals, Pine Cay, Dellis Bay, Fort George, and more. The boat excursions also include a stop at a secluded beach where the whole family can enjoy various water sports and some lunch.

3. Long Bay Beach and Kiteboarding

Add to your fun family travels by exploring the southeast side of Providenciales and walk your way to Long Bay beach from your White Villas rental home. This beach is among the most popular spots for kiteboarding in the world. The best part? It’s reputation doesn’t make it inaccessible. The whole family can try and enjoy kiteboarding, while still being watching the experts nearby. The water at Long Bay beach is shallow and makes learning this water sport easier and safe.

4. Horseback riding

After some fun on the water, consider a unique, family friendly horseback riding tour on the beach, soaking in the spectacular views of the crystal clear sea.

5. Stand up paddle board in the mangrove

Paddle boarding is fun, easy and safe. Plus, you get a much better view of the surrounding sea life because you’re higher over the water. Quiet and discreet, your paddle board won’t cause much water disturbance, so sea life isn’t likely to be scared off. For these reasons, paddle boarding is probably the best way to experience the environment of the mangrove wetlands and shallows of the Turks and Caicos.

6. Jet ski rental

While some enjoy the stillness, others love speed. With crystal clear waters and plenty of room to roam, booking some jet ski time can be loads of fun. From the freighter wreck in the shallow turquoise waters off Long Bay Beach to the remote West Harbour Bluff coastline or the tiny uninhabited rocky cays on the south coast, you’ll be well served and you can rent them directly through us.

7. Strolling Grace Bay / Emerald point

Award-winning Grace Bay is the main attraction for beach lovers in Providenciales, but there are other spots you’ll want to stroll. The beach at Emerald Point is one of them. Tucked within a residential development, there isn’t much action and that’s the whole point. Secluded, yet strategically close to the mouth of the Leeward channel, it offers tranquility, plus great boat-watching from vessels sailing in and out of nearby Blue Haven Marina.

8. Diving

You can count on excellent scuba diving in Providenciales. Dive sites spread across roughly 70 miles (112 km) of barrier reef and wall. Most of the diving is considered wall diving, where the shallow depths on the Caicos underwater plateau meet the deep waters abruptly. In some locations, the wall is a vertical. If you want to learn to dive, the Turks and Caicos have many dive shops with accredited, professional instructors that offer PADI and Scuba Schools International (SSI) courses.

9. E-foiling

Wondering what e-foiling is? You’re not alone. Electric foil surfing, (also known as e-foiling or jet boarding), combines elements of surfing and kiteboarding, without requiring specific wind or wave conditions. It’s easy to learn, accessible for all and thrilling to experience. We’ve partnered with the excellent Fly TCI to help our guests experience the thrill of this new activity.

10. Golf or tennis

If hitting the links or playing a few sets are already among your favorite activities at home, you’ll be pleased to know that paradise has its version of tennis or golf. Provo Golf Clubs offers a fun, family outing for those that love sport, and sun.

Bonus: Snorkeling

The Bight Reef (also known as Coral Gardens) is an excellent snorkeling reef that begins close to the beach, and is the most popular snorkeling site in the Turks and Caicos. Combine this adventure with a lunch at Somewhere Cafe, and all the family will have a great time. Complimentary snorkeling gear is provided for White Villas guests.
